The key to solving minesweeper puzzles is to look carefully at the interaction between the different givens.
For instance, if there are two givens that have at least one cell that overlap, then you can use information from the possible options for one to influence and restrict the possible options for the other.
This cross-referencing is the key to solving many minesweeper puzzles, together with being careful to ensure that you count correctly and consider all the neighbours, sometimes people forget to include all the diagonal cells next to a given!
Some minesweeper puzzles tell you the number of hidden mines whilst others don't, depending on the version you are playing. But the core solving techniques remain the same.
