How do I solve calcudoku puzzles?
As with solving kakuro, the first few puzzles take longer to solve, as you need to get familiar with which combinations have the least options for each of the arithmetic operations.
Once you know that then you can quickly scan the grid at the start of the puzzle for these in order to see which cells have the most restrictions on the possible values, and start writing in the pencilmarks for these cells.
When solving 6x6 calcudoku, often you will find that the 5's seem to have the least possible places where they can go - particularly with multiplications - so look for where these can go too.
With harder calcudoku puzzles you might need to use intersections to help remove options. For instance if you know a value must go in a calcudoku arithmetic region that is contained fully within a row or column, then that value can be removed from the rest of the region.
Generally calcudoku puzzles in print publication are very fair to solve and so with a little practice you will be able to finish them quite easily. Infact many find killer sudoku are harder and take longer to solve once familiar with calcudoku.
