What is a barred crossword?
A barred crossword is one that is instantly recognisable for having no black cells at all.
However on inspection you will find that instead there are bars between certain cells - drawn usually as a thick border line between two cells either horizontally or vertically - or perhaps both.
These are used to indicate the separation point between different clues/answers as opposed to the familiar black cells in a normal crossword.
The puzzles are tightly crossed and may have many obscure clues and answers as a result. Many people say they are something of an acquired taste.
